After a light schedule and winning 6 of 7 games, we’re now sliding, and have lost the last 4 out of 5 (including 3 in a row), mainly on the road. But let’s look at these losses. One loss to the Golden State Warriors, one to the Cavs (away), then a complete robbery in Sacramento (away). Then a loss to the 1st place LA Clippers (away). So how bad can we feel about those losses? It’s far from panic button time. If you give them the Kings game (looking at you, Adam Silver) they’re now 2-2 on the road trip. But granted you’d want them to win one of the games against the 3 elite teams to consider Toronto an elite team. Yes, Houston is at home and Harden is playing like an MVP. But they struggle against top point guards. They’ve lost to Tony Parker, Jeff Teague, Kyrie Irving, and Russell Westbrook. Lowry will have a big night.
The Los Angeles Lakers @ The Golden State Warriors Prediction
BET THE WARRIORS (-111) AT BET365. Can lightning strike twice in one place? In this case, newp. The LA Lakers stunned the Warriors by upsetting them twice in as many years. And the game this year was an ass-kickin’. This time, the Lakers and Warriors will play a home-and-home series. The Lakers are better than advertised, but they’re not winning either of these games. Their win was a learning bump for the Warriors as they figure out their chemistry. The bottom line here is the Lakers are the second best scoring team in the NBA, but they’re the 4th worst defensive team. The Warriors haven’t figured it out defensively yet either, but they’re going to beat LA both games.
The Oklahoma City Thunder @ The Sacramento Kings Prediction
BET THE THUNDER (-111) AT BET365. This game will depend on which Demarcus Cousins we get. The unstoppable force. Or the unstable hot head. He’s just as likely to blow up for 40 points, as he is to explode and get ejected when OKC’s Steven Adams gets too handsy with him. Sacramento finally got a win against the Raptors (sorta), after losing 4 straight. But it’s really hard for this team to not feel like they’ve lost 5 straight. They desperately need a home win tonight. But they’re facing the league’s most dynamic player, in MVP mode, and he’s lost 2 straight games. Look for the Thunder to get a road win.
The Portland Trailblazers @ The Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction
BET THE CAVALIERS (-111) AT BET365. The Trailblazers need to stop the bleeding, STAT. They haven't really beaten a quality (besides Memphis) all year, and have dropped 4 out of 5. They’ve also been on the road for a week. Also, they’re currently giving up the 3rd most points in the NBA. Not the way you want to go into the world champion’s house. Meanwhile, The Cavaliers are playing like champions. They currently sit atop the East at 10-2. They look good at both ends, and any games they lose basically come down to their opponents being fired up to play the world champs. Teams bring their A-game intensity to the Cavs every night. Portland could play their best game of the year tonight, but they probably won’t. And anything less won’t beat Cleveland at home.
The San Antonio Spurs @ The Charlotte Hornets Prediction
BET THE SPURS (-116) AT BET365. This is a tale of two teams coming off their worst games of the season. The Hornets lost by 15 to the Grizzlies, at home. Meanwhile, the Spurs beat the Bulls by 5. Yes, the Spurs worst game was still a win. Earlier this week, I declared the Hornets a legit playoff team, and not just the benefactors of a light schedule to start. But they’re not ready to play a team that’s already been chastised by Coach Popovich once this week.
