CFL Thursday Night Football Week 2
CFL Football Thursday Games
CFL rolls into week 2 after a frenetic week 1 that did not disappoint. All four underdog teams beat the spread with two, the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos winning outright. The Argos were the biggest surprise thumping the Tiger-Cats 32-15 at home. Ricky Ray and the offense had a field day and Corey Chamblin's defense let loose as the Boatmen shattered everyone's expectations. The highly-anticipated Grey Cup rematch between the Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders ended in a 31-31 draw but they get to conclude it this week.

Only time will tell if week 1's results were an aberration or an eye-opener but the lines have shifted to reflect them. The BC Lions are surprising underdogs to the Argonauts and with 2.5 spread to cover at plus odds, they appear like the best pick. Assuming the Argos were "forreal" and their defense makes minced meat of the Lions' offensive line, BC still has weapons and a decent defense to keep the score close. But assuming the Argos come back to earth, BC should have this game wrapped up.
- Ottawa Redblacks at Calgary Stampeders (Thursday, June 29 - 9:00 PM ET)
Their Grey Cup battle was an all-time classic and for an encore, they put forth the most exciting opening day game that ended in a tie. For the Stampeders, this is their third straight crack Ottawa. Now in Calgary, where the Stamps are 32-4 at home dating back to 2013, they should finish the job. Quarterbacks Bo Levi Mitchell and Trevor Harris will go at it again and it will be close but look for the Stamps to beat the Redblacks by at least two scores in another high-scoring affair.
*Prediction: Calgary Stampeders -8.0 (-110) at Sports Interaction
- BC Lions at Toronto Argonauts (Friday, June 30 - 7:00 PM ET)
It was a tale of two cities as the Lions were upset by the Eskimos at home while the Argonauts opened BMO Field with a 17-point win over their cross-town rivals, the Tiger-Cats. The Argos got a lot from quarterback Ricky Ray and wide receiver S.J. Green and their defense were icing on the cake. The Lions' offensive line had a poor showing and cost them the game despite a gutsy fourth-quarter rally. It's hard to bet against the Argos now but the value is with BC to bounce back.
*Prediction: BC Lions +2.5 (+115) at Sports Interaction
- Montreal Alouettes at Edmonton Eskimos (Friday, June 30 - 10:00 PM ET)
The Eskimos lost star wide receiver Derel Walker but in his stead got a "duke", D'haquille Williams and Brandon Zylstra. The two combined for 252 receiving yards and a score as they were all over the Lions' defense. Darian Durant had a decent debut for the Als and they managed to contain the Roughriders' challenged offense to a measly 16 points but taking on Mike Reilly and the lethal receiving corps is another story. The Eskimos should run roughshod over the hapless Als in this spot. 8.5 is a gimme.
*Prediction: Edmonton Eskimos -8.5 (-110) at Sports Interaction
- Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders (Saturday, July 1 - 9:00 PM ET)
Since 2014, teams coming from a week 1 bye are 0-3 and including the mighty Stampeders. The additional break may be hurting these teams as their opponents had a start at shaking off the rust. The Bombers, if not for this alarming stat, should win this game and are the better team on both offense and defense but the Riders have warmed up and quarterback Kevin Glenn only gets better with time. This could be a dreadful low-scoring affair and it's best to side with the dogs here or to look elsewhere.
*Prediction: Saskatchewan Roughriders +1.0 (-110) at Sports Interaction
Betting on the CFL is easily accessible thanks to the many online sportsbooks available for Canadians. The books also run constant promotions such as a signup bonus of up to $200 as an added incentive. While the CFL may not have the big budget the NFL does, it constantly produces entertaining games full of upsets, comebacks, and smooth offense with the occasional big hit or two. The CFL is also being broadcast on American networks like ESPN more often now as the league only looks to grow its exposure.
