Wimbledon: Tennis' biggest names go for glory

Two tennis players have the best odds according to the sportsbooks.

Are they really going to prevail?

One of the marquee events on the sports calendar every year, Wimbledon has not disappointed us in 2019 with dominating performances from Tennis' biggest names, to shocking upsets from rising stars. But we are down to the nitty gritty now, where the cream rises to the top.

Wimbledon: The Ladies

As you read this, the women's semifinals may have already been decided. Heading into the semis, Wimbledon odds listed Serena Williams as the overall favorite to win the event at Even Money on William Hill. 

Additionally, Wimbledon women's singles odds had both her and Simona Halep as massive favorites to win the respective matchups and if this holds to form they will face each other in the final this weekend.

And, IF they do face one another you should be aware that Serena has a 9-2 career record over Halep. The one and only time they faced one another at Wimbledon was back in 2011, with Serena winning in 3 sets.

And it's the one and only time they ever played each other on a grass surface. Both women have been wonderful up to this point only dropping one set each, in their four Wimbledon matches.

Back in January, Serena defeated Halep as the Australian open (a hard surface) in 3 sets. But for 37 year Serena Williams, the G.O.A.T of female tennis, she's been logging a heavy workload also playing mixed doubles with Andy Murray.

If there's a time for Halep, who is 10 years younger than Serena, to win her first Wimbledon, and her 2nd career major, it's NOW.

Wimbledon: The Men

What a treat we have in store for us on Friday July 12, as the top three player's in the world, for what seems like the last 15 years, will all be in action.

Wimbledon Men's singles odds have world number 1 Novak Djokovic as -150 on BET365 to win the tournament.

Djokovic is -1200 favorite over his semifinal opponent, Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, who is currently ranked 22nd in the world. We are going to assume that Djokovic advances, and since there is no value on that side, there is no play to be made here. However, the other men's semifinal...

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal

Federer vs Nadal is a matchup that we could watch every week, for the rest of our lives and it would never get old.

In 39 career meetings Nadal holds a 24-15 edge over the 37 year old Federer, who seems to not be aging at all. Both men have only dropped 1 set thus far in the tournament and this is setting up to be another classic. The last time these two men met at Wimbledon however was all the way back in the 2008 (possibly the greatest tennis match of all time).

This was also the last time they played on grass, and both men are so different than they were a decade ago that it's almost as if they'll need to figure each other out on grass all over again. Into his late thirties now, Federer has aged like a fine wine beating Nadal six straight times on hard surfaces since 2015. 

We think Roger gets in done on grass now once again.

Djokovic vs Nadal or Federer

Djokovic has the slightest edges over both men with a career record of 28-26 over Nadal, and 25-22 versus Federer, meaning that whomever he plays in the final will be a difficult test.

But Novak Djokovic is in as good a form as we have ever seen him in his career, winning 3 of the last 4 major events, including 2018 Wimbledon. With 15 grand slam titles to Nadal's 18 and Federer's 20, the Joker will want to put a smile on that face, and close the gaps on his arch rivals.
