Carolina may get little in the way of respect as a pro hockey market, but Canes fans can boast seeing their team play in a building that's hosted more Stanley Cup victories than the Bell Centre and the Air Canada Centre combined.
Carolina Hurricanes Stadium
Since 1999, Raleigh's PNC Arena has been the proud home of the Carolina Hurricanes and the players that put on the uniform. Before they moved into their new digs, the Hurricanes set up shop in Greensboro as their first post-Whalers home. Lousy play hasn't given Carolina hockey fans too much to root for lately and sagging attendance totals has reflected this dismal period. In 2014-15, hockey attendance at PNC Arena arena by over 15% versus the year before. (Six straight playoff-free seasons will do that to a fanbase.) Did the team notice? Probably, but Carolina still played far better hockey at home. 18 of the team's 30 wins were achieved in Raleigh.
PNC Arena has seen its share of history, even if the club's stunk of late. Back in its RBC Arena days, Carolina won its first (and only) Stanley Cup in Game 7 of the 2006 Finals at the expense of the Edmonton Oilers. Fans roared as beloved veterans like Rod Brind'Amour, Glen Wesley and Doug Weight lifted the world-famous trophy for the first time in their careers. Speaking of moments of glory at PNC Arena, Carolina Hurricanes games feature a steady diet of Ric Flair "wooooo!" blasts ringing out through the speakers. Another slice of Carolina hockey tradition is the "Hurricanes Warning Siren" that's put to work before the club hits the ice.
