Los Angeles Kings vs Arizona Coyotes Boxing Day 2015 NHL Duel in the Desert
Los Angeles Kings: Road odyssey resumes after home pit stop
Continuing a journey that will cover 10,358 miles, during which they will play ten games in ten different cites over a 24 day span, the Kings head back out on the road tonight. Los Angeles won four straight home games prior to embarking on an east coast road trip where they posted a 3-2-1 record. During their last contest, prior to the Christmas break, the Kings returned home and were thumped 5-3 by the Sharks. Fortunate to play in the relatively weak Pacific Division, a 20-11-2 record has the Kings six points clear of second place San Jose. Defense is a concern as Los Angeles has given up five goals in three of their last four games. We expect the D will tighten up tonight.
Arizona Coyotes: Preseason pups are in the Pacific Division playoff hunt
Posted with the steepest preseason odds to win the Western Conference, with a +8000 money line, Arizona has been one of the surprise teams during the unofficial “first half” of the 2015-16 NHL season. The Coyotes are 16-15-2 and currently sit one point behind third place Vancouver and two points back of second place San Jose – plus they have games in hand over both teams. Goaltender Mike Smith stopped 73 of the 76 shots he faced during the Coyotes 4-1 and 3-2 wins in SoCal but he's injured and out of action until sometime in March. The Yotes will also be without one of their top scorers as Martin Hanzal (20 points in 26 games) is dealing with a lower body injury.
Los Angeles vs Arizona NHL Prediction: Jonathan Quick (17-9-1 GAA 2.26) will face Louis Domingue (2-1-0 GAA 1.62) in the goaltending duel. Quick is looking for a rebound game after he gave up four goals on just 22 shots in the Kings 5-3 loss to the Sharks prior to the break. Domingue has been rock solid as he stopped 62 of the 64 shots during 1-0 and 3-2 wins over the Islanders and Leafs in his last two starts. Prior to their two losses this season, the Kings won three in row by a 9-2 margin vs the Coyotes.
