Dallas vs Edmonton: Skidding NHL Squads Clash in the Lone Star State
Dallas Stars: Have fallen on tough times in the second half
Playing well above their preseason expectations, Dallas was tagged with a lofty +3300 Stanley Cup Championship money line price in early October, the Stars sprinted out of the starting gate with a sparkling 29-8-3 record. Dallas didn’t lose two straight games during the first three months of the season and they closed December with a seven-point lead on St. Louis, plus an eleven-point gap over Chicago, in the Central Division. The New Year has not been a happy one for Dallas as the Stars have posted a brutal 1-5-2 record during January and now trail the Blackhawks by five-points in the Central. Slumps happen but Dallas open a five-game run against teams well below them in the standings and we anticipate the Stars getting back on track during that stretch.
Edmonton Oilers: Hits keep coming during another lost season in the Alberta Capital
While the plummeting price of oil is a much bigger story in Alberta - puck fans haven’t had much to cheer about in Calgary or Edmonton during the first half of the NHL 2015-16 season. The Flames and Oilers both have 43 points as they “battle” for the Western Conference cellar. Edmonton was actually just one win away from a .500 record after six straight wins to open December. Optimism faded quickly though as the Oilers have slumped during a 5-10-3 recent run and they are now 19-24-5 overall. Excitement surrounding the pending return of Connor McDavid has been tempered as third leading scorer Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is now out six-to-eight weeks with a hand injury.
