UFC 253 comes packed with fireworks from both inside the octagon and the betting lines as middleweight king Israel Adesanya settles his grudge with the unbeaten destroyer, Paulo Costa. Both fighters are explosive strikers and with ill will all but guaranteeing heated exchanges. Co-headlining are red-hot fighters Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz facing off for the vacant light heavyweight title. Let's break down these fights and see which bets we can cash.
CFL Thursday Night Football Week 7
CFL Football Thursday Games
Tonight, we have the Calgary Stampeders at the Toronto Argos. It's either played at the Skydome or Rogers Centre, depending on how old you are. It's the only game on the CFL schedule tonight, so let's give it our full attention.

This seems like a bigger match up than it is on paper. This appears to be a matchup of the first place team from the Eastern Conference going up against the 2nd best team out West. But let's try to factor in the fact that the Argos are leading the East with a 3-3 record, and they are the only team with a winning (sort of) record, or have a .500 or above record. Ouch. Leading the East right now is like being the valedictorian of summer school. Burn. Serious burn. You can smell the smoke all the way to Montreal (who are 2nd in the east with a 2-4 record, by the way).
- Calgary Stampeders at Toronto Argonauts (3-3) (Thursday, August 3, 8:30 PM ET)
Meanwhile the Stamps are a rock solid 5-1 on the season, and sit just behind the undefeated Edmonton Eskimos for the lead in the Western Conference.
If the Argos were out West, they would be a half a game ahead of the Roughriders for last place. So not only does Calgary have the better record, they're playing in the tougher conference. That being said, Calgary’s only loss came at the hands of the aforementioned Alouettes, who beat them 30-23, in Montreal. They also tied the Redblacks in Ottawa on opening night, and avenged that tie (is avenging a tie a thing) in Calgary a week later in a thriller, 43-39.
In terms of momentum, Calgary is coming in feeling very strong, having won their last two games by beating the Roughriders 27-10, and by unleashing the asskickin of the year with a savage 63-1 beating of the Hamilton (Oskee wee wee, ya’ll) Tiger-Cats.
Those last two games were at home and the Stamps are 1-1-1 on the road this year. Whereas the Argos are coming in cold. They have lost two of their last 3 games, by losing to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 33-25 in Winny, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, 38-27. They did squeeze in a home win against the Redblacks, 27-24.
So what do you get when you match a team that's won two in a row at home vs a team who's lost two in a row on the road, and flip their situations? You get a home team that very much wants to win. And Toronto has a winning home this year at 2-1. So I like their odds tonight to come out strong and beat Calgary. That being said, they have not beat a winning team all year long, so a win will require their best effort of the year.
But I'm backing Toronto tonight. I feel they are hungry and in a good situation. It's not every day you get the hunger of a .500 team who's out to prove themselves, who also happen to be fighting to win their conference. I also refuse to accept that the East is this inferior this year, so I'm putting my money on Blue tonight.
