UFC 253 comes packed with fireworks from both inside the octagon and the betting lines as middleweight king Israel Adesanya settles his grudge with the unbeaten destroyer, Paulo Costa. Both fighters are explosive strikers and with ill will all but guaranteeing heated exchanges. Co-headlining are red-hot fighters Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz facing off for the vacant light heavyweight title. Let's break down these fights and see which bets we can cash.
NFL Point Spread: Jaguars at Patriots 2018 AFC Championship Game
Tom Brady showed up at a press conference wearing big red gloves to either conceal an injured hand, or to dupe us all. I think it's entirely possible that this injured hand is a ploy to control the narrative around the game, and possibly incept the idea that it will be less than 100%. In either case, these are now the most infamous gloves in the history of the NFL since O.J. Simpson.
I wish we had more details, there are only rumors. For example, there are rumours he has stitches in the hand. Which, what obviously hinder his game, and possibly break, taking him out of the game. But I feel like he will play. And as a result, he will play like Tom Brady. If we get Tom at 75%, that’s enough to play in the next Super Bowl. Anything less, or anyone else taking the Patriots’ snaps, the Jags’ D will feast. But Tom is playing. That’s my story and I’m 65% sticking to it.
Prediction: The New England Patriots (-7.5) at Sports Interaction
For now, let's assume he plays and we have both teams at reasonably close to full strength. This is a battle of the second-best offensive team and the second-best defensive team, on paper. On the field, you can certainly make an argument that was the best. So this is gonna be fun.
The Jaguars defense is all in on every play. They’re aggressive and athletic. They are going to test Brady, early and often. We all know it is the dream of every defensive player in the world to pick or sack Tom Brady in the playoffs. But, the reason that (healthy) Brady is the Goat is that he’s less of a QB and more of a surgeon. He’s met big and scary defenses that have wanted to kill him before. And we all know he’s done just fine. Last weekend, The Jags D showed us that, as good as they are, they can be rattled. And the Pats can rattle.
New England scored 28.6 points a game, good enough for second in the NFL behind the Rams. Meanwhile, The Jags’ D gave up 286.1 yards per game, which was second in the NFL. They also only gave up 16.8 points per game (also second), and forced the second most fumbles in the NFL.
But this game will come down to More than the Patriots' offense in the Jaguars' defense. Of course, they have to match up on the other side of the ball too. The Jaguars have to score and the Pats have to try and stop them. The man in charge of leading the Jacksonville attack is Blake Bortles. Last weekend he played the biggest game of his life and got the win. He was 14-26, throwing for 214 yards and a touchdown, including going 5-7 for 118 yards and a touchdown in the 4th to shut the Steelers comeback right down.
Of bigger concern to the Pats’ D is Leonard Fournette, who carried 25 times for 109 yards, and broke into the end zone 3 times. By the way, this kid is only 23-years-old. Meanwhile, New England had the 5th best statistical defense in the NFL. They gave up 18.5 points per night. But they also surrendered the second-fewest rushing touchdowns in the league in the regular season, only yielding 6 all year.
