The Match Play format favors Mr. Woods and here's why. Tiger plays a higher risk, higher variance game than Phil Mickelson. At one point in his career Phil was just as likely to gamble Tiger was. In a 1 day event I want the golfer who is currently playing better, and Tiger Woods over the last year or so has been superior in the following categories: Off the Tee, Approach, Around the Green, and Tee to Green.
The one facet of the game where Phil has been superior to Tiger; putting. And anyone who has ever golfed will know that this can be what wins or loses you the day. That not withstanding I recommend a 1 unit wager on Tiger.
