Ready or not, the 2020 NFL season is nigh in NFL futures betting is as hot as some of the coaches' seats as we'll cover. Not to be swayed by the potential impact of the COVID-19 season, the NFL will proceed almost as planned. There will be a regular season, playoffs, and a Super Bowl champion:
Kansas City opened as Super Bowl LV favourites at 7.002020 NFL futures and props betting facts:
- New Orleans opened as the favourites to win the NFC at 7.00
- 2020 first overall pick Joe Burrow is the favourite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at 3.50
- New England coach Bill Bellichick is the favourite to win Coach of the Year at 11.00
- Detroit coach Matt Patricia is the favourite to be the first coach to leave at 4.00
Let's look at the trending NFL stories in the form of NFL futures and props.
NFL Futures: the hot topics to bet on
Joe Burrow (3.50) or Clyde Edwards-Helaire (5.00) to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
Some NFL futures are pretty straightforward and this one comes down to the new Bengals quarterback and the first overall pick of this year's draft or the Chiefs' hot new running back, Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Burrows and the Bengals have an easy schedule and he will have ample time to pad stats. Edwards-Helaire should shine in Andy Reid's prolific offence. Bet on either or bet both.
Also consider: Jalen Hurts (67.00)
A.J. Green to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year - 8.50
Comeback Player is a stacked category this year with Rob Gronkowski (3.50), Ben Roethlisberger (5.00), and JJ Watt all leading the pack (6.50). But all three are too frail and could get hurt again. A.J. Green, still in his prime, has a better chance of playing a full year and will have star rookie Joe Burrow throwing him the ball.
Also consider: David Johnson (13.00)
Houston Texans to win AFC South Division - 4.02
The Titans overachieved last season, the Colts stole headlines by landing Philip Rivers, but the Texans remain the best team in the division - horrendous trade considered. Losing DeAndre Hopkins will be a big blow to their passing game, but they're still just as good as the other two and at these odds, they are the bet.
New Orleans Saints to win 2020 NFC Championship - 6.25
They opened as the favourites to win the NFC for a reason. The Saints only got better by re-signing Drew Brees and inking Jameis Winston giving them a two-headed monster at the center. They also improved both lines and added depth at skill positions. Despite their string of bad luck, they are bound to breakthrough.
Also consider: Seattle Seahawks (11.00)
Kansas City Chiefs to win 2020 AFC Championship - 3.75
Just like the Offensive Rookie of the Year futures bet, this one is also straightforward and comes down to either the Chiefs or the Ravens. But we'll give the Chiefs the edge as Patrick Mahomes is better, their offence is more consistent, and they now have the confidence of champions. Bank on KC again.
Also consider: Baltimore Ravens (4.00)
NFL Props: which players and coaches to bet on (or against)
Adam Gase to be the first head coach to leave - 9.00
Both Matt Patricia (4.00) and Doug Marrone (5.00) are likely finished with their respective teams, but Adam Gase could be the first one gone. The Jets are a ticking time bomb and Gase's leash has gotten shorter since the organization fired the GM who signed him. With a wide-open, another slow start from the Jets is Gase's express flight out of the city.
Also consider: Matt Patricia (4.00)
Joe Burrow passes for over 4,374 yards breaking the rookie record - 3.50
Piggybacking off the Offensive Rookie of the Year futures, go a step further and pick Burrow to blast the rookie record. It's not that Burrow is a surefire superstar or the Bengals are going to be awesome, it's just the way the NFL is now. The arcade-like pace, easy schedule, and exhausted defence will be a perfect storm for Burrow to break rookie quarterback records.
Most passing Yards: Patrick Mahomes - 4.05
Even if Patrick Mahomes does not play a full 16 games, he should be in the top-three of passing yards. He's just that good. He has one of the strongest and most precise passing arms and Reid's system just makes everything look easy. Aaron Rodgers could be attempting more passes, but the edge goes to Mahomes.
Also consider: Aaron Rodgers (9.00)
Most rushing yards: Ezekiel Elliott - 10.00
This prop bet is always a crapshoot as no running back has ever won consecutive rushing titles since LaDainian Tomlinson did in 2006 and 2007. Derrick Henry (6.30) could break this trend, but our money's are on "Zeke" who has been the most consistent elite rusher in the last four seasons.
Also consider: Chris Carson (17.00)
