Cardinals send out their ace to battle the Rookies
Although he hit a rough patch in August, Cardinals RHP Adam Wainright (17-9 ERA 2.63) is still one of the premier pitchers in baseball today. St. Louis has won both of Wainright's September starts and the Cards ace is coming off a complete game as he allowed just one run over nine innings in the Cardinals 9-1 bashing of the Brewers on Sunday. St. Louis currently owns a 2.5 game lead over the Pirates in the National League Central division playoff race as they seek a fourth straight postseason appearance.

Sitting with a 59-87 record, the Rockies are assured of a fourth straight losing season. LHP Jorge De La Rose (13-10 ERA 4.27) is charged with trying to match Wainright on the bump tonight. De la Rosa has posted a 2-4 record with one no decision over his last seven starts. The pitching match-up tilts in favor of the Cardinals in this contest tonight.
