2016 Euro Cup Outright Prediction

After the Group Stage and Knockout round wrapped up the elite eight teams remain – with every remaining game being so important and widely viewed they are designated their own day. The remaining countries consistent of a few of the usual suspects – particularly Germany and host nation France and are rounded out with two large underdogs in Wales and Iceland.

It was 1984 a host nation last won the Euro Cup and that nation was France – who defeated Spain 2-0. Since then each host nation has lost with only Portugal in 2004 making it to the final game. France and Germany remain the favourites to win it all in 2016, but their paths will cross in the semi-finals – as long as each team is victorious. Since both teams are favoured in their quarterfinal matches the likelihood of them playing against each other is relatively high.

This is where Belgium comes into play. Belgium had a strong showing in the Group Stage, going 2-0-1, but picked up the play in the knockout stage – besting Hungary 4-0. No team had scored as many goals in a single Euro Cup game in 2016. Belgium will go on to face either Poland or Portugal. Poland is a large underdog against Portugal and Portugal themselves played Hungary to a 3-3 draw in the Group Stage. Belgium will now go on to face either Germany or France after they play each other in what fans will hope to be an excellent match.
