UFC 253 comes packed with fireworks from both inside the octagon and the betting lines as middleweight king Israel Adesanya settles his grudge with the unbeaten destroyer, Paulo Costa. Both fighters are explosive strikers and with ill will all but guaranteeing heated exchanges. Co-headlining are red-hot fighters Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz facing off for the vacant light heavyweight title. Let's break down these fights and see which bets we can cash.
Best 2017 ATP US Open Betting Picks
I love the tradition of Wimbledon, but let’s be honest. The US Open is more fun.
The ruckus crowds are always just rude enough to make me happy. But let’s chat briefly about the Canucks in the running. We are 2 weeks removed from 18-year-old-freaking-prodigy Denis Shapovalov becoming the youngest player ever to reach an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final four on his home turf at the Rogers Cup. He’s now cracked the Top 100 for the first time in his young career. And I doubt he’ll be falling out of it soon. I’m not saying he can win it all, but a sweet 16 at age 18 may be a smart bet.
And of course, we have Milos Raonic. He's currently seeded 6th, with a ranking of as high as 3rd in the world earlier this year. He's advanced to the 4th round at the US Open 3 times, but not since 2014. So his winning would take a breakthrough moment. That would mean only his second Grand Slam Finals ever (Wimbledon 2016, being the first) and his first ever win. I'm pulling for him, but not betting on him.
Other Canadians to watch include:
- Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont
- Peter Polansky of Thornhill, Ont
- Brayden Schnur, Toronto, Ont
All of whom are long shots, so betting on a first round win is a stretch, but will pay nicely.
Overall, your best bets are:
The ageless Roger Federer is still top ranked, looking for is 6th US Open title win and the first since 2008. It would also put him alone all-time in US Open wins, ahead of Jimmy Connors and Pete Sampras, who have 5 each. He’s been injured lately, so he may not be 100%.
Next, of course, Rafael Nadal. The world’s #1 player and looking for his 3rd US Open title. He’s already won two other grand slam events this year and says, “That would be a joke, if I won three slams this year out of nowhere.” I’m not laughing. I’m betting on him to win.
After the top 4, there’s a fair bit of separation between them and the rest of the Top 10.
- Marin Cilic (CRO) 16.00
- Nick Kyrgios (AUS) 17.00
- Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) 17.00
- Milos Raonic (CAN) 19.00
- Dominic Thiem (AUT) 21.00
- Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG) 21.00
Who jumps out at you there? Certainly, Raonic, as we’ve discussed. But what about Nick Kyrgios? Has he finally got his head out of his ass? No. But he’s playing better. In 2017, we’ve seen him beat Djokovic, Nadal and make his first Masters final. His winning would probably cause 4-time US Open winner John McEnroe to vomit with rage.
And don’t sleep on Dominic Thiem. The 23-year-old is ranked 8th in the world, but he lost to the eventual French Open winner in Nadal in the quarters, and made it to the round of 16 at Wimbledon. I see him going one round deeper this week.
