Calgary Stampeders Grey Cup Odds 2017
Stampeders Odds To Win The Grey Cup
Coming off one of the best regular seasons in Canadian Football League history, the Calgary Stampeders fell moments short of winning the Grey Cup – losing 39-33 to the Ottawa Redblacks in overtime. The Stamps' 15-2-1 record last season was their second best in franchise history (behind a 13-1 season in 1949), but it is surprisingly not a large improvement over their recent average win total. From 2008 to 2016 (nine seasons) Calgary averages 13 wins per season and has won more than 11 games seven times. Their current coach – Dave Dickenson – joined the team’s coaching staff in 2009 and got promoted to head coach last season. His experience with Calgary should help him and the team rebound after their devastating defeat in the 2016 Grey Cup.
There is only one goal for Calgary in 2017 – win the Grey Cup. The Stampeders bring back much of their core from 2016. This group of players that includes the 2016 CFL lead rusher Jerome Messam, 2016 Most Outstanding Player of the Year Bo Levi Mitchell and the 2016 Rookie of the Year DaVaris Daniels. Their biggest loss – 2016 Offensive Lineman of the Year Derek Dennis – stings a bit, but with the amount of talent this team has, they will be able to overcome his departure.
The Calgary Stampeders are the overall favourites to win the 2017 Grey Cup. At +333, the sportsbooks love Calgary and see the team recovering well from their Grey Cup defeat and remaining the best team in the CFL. The odds for make sense.
Award winners and all-stars fill Calgary’s roster, and the franchise is coming off one of the best seasons in CFL history. The two biggest knocks against Calgary are that +333 odds are not going to net a large payout and the last two times the Stampeders lost the Grey Cup they failed to return the following season – but both times they did make it the year after.
Calgary Stampeders 2017 Schedule
Calgary gets to open up the 2017 regular season against the team beat them in the Grey Cup – the Ottawa Redblacks. The Friday night affair is the second game of the CFL’s opening weekend, but it is arguably the biggest and best of week 1. Calgary will not be facing the same quarterback as it did in the Grey Cup, but will still have their hands full against Ottawa. Last season the Stampeders and Redblacks tied in Ottawa. Do not expect a tie this year as Calgary has seven months of pent up frustration they will try and exact. The game takes place in Ottawa on June 23 at 7:30 PM EST.
After week one, Calgary heads home to play Ottawa once again. The home-and-home games are the only two times the teams play in 2017 – unless of course, they meet in the playoffs/Grey Cup. From week three to week ten, the Stampeders play a relatively light schedule. However, in week 11 things heat up in Alberta. Calgary hosts the Edmonton Eskimos on Labour Day Monday in week 11 and then goes to Edmonton five days later. The Stamps then go home to play the BC Lions and then go on the road to play Saskatchewan. This four game stretch will play a huge factor in determining whether Calgary will repeat as Western Division champions. Their biggest game after this point of the season is a week 19 game against Edmonton in Edmonton.
