MLS Cup Vegas Odds: Bank on Toronto to Edge Seattle
Will due respect to the MLS Cup Vegas odds, betting odds don't mean jack here. Just ask Toronto FC. The resurgent team has made it back to the Final despite being decided underdogs against both Atlanta United FC and New York City FC. And they did all this without one of their main men upfront, Jozy Altidore.
Toronto FC (3.04) got all this way thanks to a combination of defense, goalkeeping, and clutch goal-scoring. Blowing out D.C. United 5-1 is a bit misleading as four of their goals came in extra time. For the most part, TFC has been in close games and has edged their opponents by keeping them from scoring.
The Reds held the prolific Josef Martinez scoreless when they defeated Atlanta and they pretty much blanked the league's second-best offense in their own turf.
Not to be outdone, the Sounders (2.05) have been just as impressive. They took out the dominant LAFC (a league-leading +48 goal differential!) and held them scoreless for the final hour. Never mind that they played a bit dirty and got away with a few handballs, it's the mark of a battle-tested champion.
The Sounders' strength have been upfront: Jordan Morris, Raul Ruidiaz, and Nicolas Lodeiro have been their three-headed goal-scoring monster. Morris and Ruidiaz lead the playoffs with three goals apiece while Lodeiro has a pair of his own.
Seattle had a test against FC Dallas in the first round, but it was pretty smooth sailing from there. Unlike Toronto FC, they played most of their games at home although their most impressive victory came on the road.
Both these teams are a bit different from the last time they met but will still be familiar with their overall makeup. Toronto FC is a squad that plays better than the sum of their parts and their greatest asset has been their ability to claw back and outwork superior talent.
But Seattle isn't just talented, they are also a gritty and crafty team that knows how to win.
While the MLS Cup Vegas odds are accurate in favouring Seattle, it can't measure just which team will have that extra push in them when it gets deep into the game.
Seattle will score and push Toronto to the brink but expect TFC to fight back and edge the Sounders to capture their second title in three seasons and win the rubber match in what will turn into one of MLS's greatest rivalries.
Pick: Toronto FC 2 Seattle Sounders 1 (i.e.t.)
MLS Cup Odds 2019: Best Prop Bets
The MLS Cup Odds 2019 is filled with plenty of solid bets to make. Let's take a look at some that are the best bang for your bucks:
Goals Over/Under - Under +2.5 (2.05)
Historically, there hasn't been plenty of scoring between both these franchises. The over may have hit in six of the last ten matches and their last two matches saw a combined eight goals in total. But look at the other underlying numbers.
Seattle has been blanked three times, Toronto once. There have been two goals or less in five of the last seven meetings. There will be a market correction and goals will come at a premium in this game.
Will There Be an Overtime? - Yes (3.37)
Adding to the bet that there will be few to no goalscoring, chalk this bet in with it. While both teams have a killer mentality, both are also apt at keeping the other from scoring. They have shown a penchant for exploding or clocking goals late in games.
But the physical nature of both teams and the fact they have much respect for each other will dilute the scoring. With one goal apiece, expect this game to need extra time.
Draw and Under +2.5 (4.79)
Alternatively, you can try putting Draw (3.92) and under +2.5 (2.05) in a parlay for a better payout. There is a slight chance Seattle blows Toronto FC away or edge them by a goal in regular time.
But the odds of them going into extra time is greater in relation to the odds. This prop bet is a solid combo of the two: of the game heading to extra time with a score being 1-1.
