Odds to win the 2018 Grey Cup

From Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, on Sunday November 25th at 6pm EST, the 106th CFL Grey Cup will match the Ottawa RedBlacks against the Calgary Stampeders in a rematch of the 2016 Grey Cup.

Both of these franchises have been dominant forces in the CFL for past few seasons. This will be Calgary's 5th Grey Cup final in the last 7 seasons. But having only 1 Grey Cup victory this decade to show for their sustained excellence should bother this organization. Having lost 2 finals in a row gives Calgary extra incentive to take this prize home in Edmonton, enemy territory.

One of those 2 consecutive Grey Cup Final losses was to the Ottawa RedBlacks in 2016, when the they took home their first Grey Cup in franchise history. 

Having only come into existence in 2014, the RedBlacks, Ottawa's 3rd CFL team, wasted no time asserting themselves in the upper echelon making 3 of the last 4 Grey Cup Finals.

Match Preview

Both teams made use of their first round byes and won their conference championship games at home, though in very different manner. Calgary, and starting QB Bo Levi Mitchell took some time to get going in their 22-14 victory over the Blue Bombers, finally getting on the board in the 2nd quarter, but while Mitchell made almost no mistakes, it was not a dynamic offensive performance. Winnipeg was still very much in the game all the way until late into the 4th quarter. 

Ottawa's offense on the other hand, was shot out of a cannon, putting up 31 points in the first half and cruising to a 46-27 victory over provincial foes, the Hamilton Ticats.

RedBlacks quarterback Trevor Harris went 29/32 for 367 yards and set a CFL playoff record with 6 TD passes in the onslaught. 10 different receivers caught passes and 5 caught touchdowns in what was a spectacular offensive display.

And if you're wondering whether Ottawa can replicate this on Sunday let's look at both teams on current form.

From October onwards, Ottawa has only failed to put up 30 points or more in only 1 of the games that Harris has started. 

From October onwards, Calgary has not scored 30 points in any game after averaging 32 points per game during their 1st 13 games of the season.

Prediction

The bold pick would be to wager the Ottawa RedBlacks on the moneyline. Though Calgary won both regular season meetings between the sides and have been the best team all season, both those contests were in the summer.

It feels as if the Stamps may have peaked too early where as Trevor Harris and the RedBlacks, look like they are peaking right now.

The third time may be a charm for the Calgary Stampeders...but even if they pull it out, it will be by 3 or less.
