UFC 253 comes packed with fireworks from both inside the octagon and the betting lines as middleweight king Israel Adesanya settles his grudge with the unbeaten destroyer, Paulo Costa. Both fighters are explosive strikers and with ill will all but guaranteeing heated exchanges. Co-headlining are red-hot fighters Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz facing off for the vacant light heavyweight title. Let's break down these fights and see which bets we can cash.
Sports Interaction Stanley Cup 2018 Futures Betting Lines Picks
Let’s take a look at some of the teams you were probably thinking about laying your Stanley Cup 2018 futures bet on and their current odds at Sports Interaction Canada.
Toronto Maple Leafs (+700)Oddsmakers have named The Lightning and the Leafs as the most likely to win it all. I think we’re jumping the gun a little bit here. Don’t get me wrong, if this team can stay healthy and under salary cap control, theirs is the earth and everything in it. But are they there yet? Meh, I’m not sold.
Last year they went from 29 wins to forty and springboarded themselves into the playoffs for only the second time in 13 years. Now, they’re having a solid regular season, right there in the Eastern Conference standings and odds-on favorites to win it all. Did I miss something?
Sorry, nobody makes that leap. Not with Mike Babcock, not with Auston Matthews. No chance. There is still a maturation process that needs to take place before the Leafs can grow into the best team in the world. They can get there, but they will have to lose to learn how to win.
Las Vegas Golden Knights (+280)To start the NHL season, we had to do some soul searching and ask ourselves if the impossible was possible. Could an expansion team win the Stanley Cup? The Knights have slowed their pace, but still stand a rock solid chance of getting to the postseason. They would be the first expansion team since the 60s to make the playoffs in their first season.
This is certainly not a bet I would make in a million years. But, I get why other people would be drawn to it.
Pittsburgh Penguins (+1000)The 2-time defending champions being ranked behind the Leafs and the Lightning. A tad disrespectful? Nah. And even if it was, they don’t care.
Like other championship dynasties in other sports (The Patriots, the Warriors), they have learned to play the long game. They’ve learned how to never overreact or underreact to anything in the regular season. Slow and steady wins the race, and it’s all just preparation to play your best hockey and peak in the Spring.
Pittsburgh has shown they know how to do this, so they are my pick to go back-to-back-to-back.
Tampa Bay Lightning (+700)I see this team as a far more legit contender than the Maple Leafs, despite the fact that oddsmakers are giving them the same chance. But Tampa Bay’s Big start has people talking.
After a crap season last year, Tampa now has enough firepower, health (fingers crossed) and experience to make a serious run at the Cup this year. Last year, there was a lot of factors that caused them to miss the playoffs, not the least of which was Steven Stamkos missing 65 games following a torn ACL early on in the year.
