Small field looks to upset the Kentucky Derby Champ
A field of eight horses are entered in the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes. The low number of entries can be attributed to super-horse American Pharoah having everyone shaking in their boots, or the talent level just not being there, or some owners preferring to point there runners towards the Belmont Stakes. The Preakness was last run with eight horses in 2000 when Red Bullet upset huge favorite Fusaichi Pegasus.
American Pharoah attempts winning Preakness Stakes run from Post Position #1
Although a smaller field makes post-positions slightly less important, American Pharoah will fire from PP#1 as the favorite on Saturday. Tabasco Cat (1994) is the last horse to win the Preakness from the rail. This race sets up similar to the 1994 Preakness as second favorite Dortmond has PP#2 and that’s the same spot Derby winner Go For Gin had as he unsuccessfully attempted to capture the second leg of the Triple Crown.
