Arizona Diamondbacks: Late July run fizzled out in August
Sitting with a 50-51 record, following six straight wins to close out July, Arizona still had an outside shot at the playoffs as they were just 5.5 games back in the National League Wild Card race. Those hopes were dashed however as the Diamondbacks went 13-17 in August and they are now 11.5 games out of a postseason position. Arizona can blame a lot of their woes on their pitching staff as the Dbacks have scored the fourth most runs (588) in the Majors but they are sporting a 4.03 team ERA that’s good for 20th overall. Arizona has lost three straight games during a 1-7 recent run.
Colorado Rockies: Long MLB season is slowly drawing to a close in Mile High Country
On their way to missing the MLB playoffs for a sixth straight year, Colorado is playing out the string on a long season of losing in Mile High country. The Rockies are 53-76 and trail the LA Dodgers by 19.5 games in the National League West Division. Overall only Miami (53-79) and Philadelphia (52-80) have a worse record than the Rockies – though there is still a chance that Colorado could end up as the worst time in baseball this year. The Rockies are in the same boat as Arizona as they have so the fifth most runs (588) but their 5.10 team ERA is by far the worst mark in the Majors.
