Cubs vs White Sox: MLB Interleague Preview and Betting Odds
Count the Cubs in the group that was happy to see the All-Star break roll around. Following a torrid 47-20 season start, the Cubs were in free fall as they went 6-15 prior to the Midsummer Classic. Though the National League roster was littered with Cubs, the break seems to have helped, as the North Siders are 6-3 since the start of the unofficial second half of the 2016 MLB season.
Following an impressive 23-10 season start, that had Chicago leading the AL Central Division by six games, the White Sox have sputtered as they are now 48-50 and trail the Cleveland Indians by 8.5 games. Although they have won two-straight, turmoil surrounds the Sox after star pitcher Chris Sale was suspended for five games after he cut up the team’s throwback jerseys on Saturday night.

Jake Arrieta vs Miguel Gonzalez: Cubs Have a Pitching Advantage in This Contest
Seemingly refreshed following the All-Star break, RHP Jake Arrieta (12-4 ERA 2.60) gets the call for the Cubs tonight. Arrieta stumbled prior to All-Star break as he allowed 15 runs over 16.1 innings pitched during three starts. Arrieta had allowed just 19 earned runs during his previous 15 starts. Returning from the break, Arrieta gave up one run and five hits in a 2-1 loss to the New York Mets.
Aiming for his second personal win, over an eight start stretch, RHP Miguel Gonzalez (2-5 ERA 4.41) heads to the hill for the home team. Gonzalez has been streaky during his first season with the White Sox and has allowed three runs in both of his starts following the All-Star break. Gonzalez hasn’t faced the Cubs since a 2-1 loss as a member of the Orioles in 2014 while Arrieta’s teams (Orioles and Cubs) have won five straight games he has started against the Sox. Back the Cubbies!
