Pittsburgh Penguins: Staggering some in the NHL playoff race
Pittsburgh is in some unfamiliar territory as they have gone from prey to predators in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Owners of the top perch in the Metropolitan Division for the majority of the season, the Penguins have slipped to third overall as they are four points behind the Islanders. Pittsburgh has been up and down in the New Year as they have posted a 9-7-4 record since the beginning of January. Pittsburgh hosts Columbus for the first time since the playoffs last season.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Disastrous start dooms the NHL season in the Buckeye State
If you take away the first 23 games of their season, where the Blue Jackets posted a 6-15-2 record, Columbus would be in the thick of the playoff race. Despite producing a solid 19-12-1 record since the start of December, Columbus is still 12 points out of a Wild Card postseason position and they need to jump over four teams ahead of them. In their only other meeting so far this season, the Blue Jackets registered a 4-3 shootout win at home against the Penguins on December 13, 2015.
Blue Jackets vs Penguins Prediction: It appears as though the rash of injuries the Penguins have endured throughout the season is starting to cause a degree of fatigue to their healthy skaters. Columbus meanwhile is fairly healthy and they expect to have star winger Nick Foligno back in the line up tonight. Though it's rarely wise to bet against Sidney Crosby & Crew - this will be a playoff style game for the Blue Jackets. Not expecting a blowout, we are backing the Blue Jackets with 300 unit wager on the puck line odds posted on the betting board at the SportsInteraction sportsbook.
