Dallas Stars: Have moved on after embarrassing loss to the Leafs
Soaring high, as one of the hottest teams in the NHL, Dallas hit a slight a roadblock when they opened a four-game road trip in Toronto on Monday night. The Stars were 9-2 prior that contest but, despite outshooting Toronto by a 44-26 count, Dallas dropped a 4-1 decision to the Maple Leafs. Dusting themselves off, Dallas headed into Boston the next night and the Stars blitzed the Bruins by a 5-2 count as Tyler Seguin recorded a hat-trick against his former team. Sequin, along with linemate Jamie Benn, lead the NHL scoring race with 20 points apiece through 13 games.
Carolina Hurricanes: Have gained some strength following a slow saeson start
Limping out of the NHL starting gate with a 2-6-0 record, Carolina has played better recently as the Hurricanes had posted three straight wins prior to a 4-3 home loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. That contest was close until the third period as the Lightning struck twice in the final frame to take a 4-1 lead. Carolina registered two goals late, including one with just a single second left on the clock, to make the score appear to be respectable. Offense is still a problem for the Hurricanes as their 2.17 goals for per game in tied for the 26th worst mark in the National Hockey League.
