Florida vs Edmonton: Panthers Battle Oilers Aiming For a 12th Straight Victory
Florida Panthers: Riding a franchise record winning streak
Winners of franchise record eleven straight contests; Florida is the hottest team in hockey. Defense is key for the Cats as the Panthers 2.12 goals against per game is the lowest total in the league. The proof is in the production as Florida has outscored their opponents by a 38-14 margin during their winning streak. Not exactly a powerhouse on offense, the Panthers 2.66 GPG is decent ranking twelfth overall. Florida is led by the ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr who has 30 points in 38 games.
Edmonton Oilers: It has been another season of struggling in the Alberta Capital
Sporadic play has Edmonton mired in a tenth straight losing season as we hit the halfway point of the NHL 2015-16 season. The Oilers were hurt by a 8-15-2 start during the first two months but they opened December with six straight wins. Edmonton has regressed though as they are 3-7-1 during their last eleven contests. This is the fifth of six home games for the Oilers who lost 3-2 to Tampa Bay in their last action on Friday night. The loss of Connor McDavid to injury has hurt the Oilers but the super-rookie is expected back in early February. Offense is a problem for the Oilers.
Oilers vs Panthers NHL Game Day Call: This is the first of two meetings this year after the Oilers won 3-2 (SO) in Florida and the Panthers posted a 4-2 victory in Edmonton last season. The Oilers are 5-1-0 vs the Panthers recently and three of those contests went into extra time. Cam Talbot (7-12-2) faces Al Montoya (6-1-1 GAA 1.69) in the goaltending duel tonight.
