Miami vs New York: Marlins Host the Mets in a South Beach Battle
New York Mets: Set to begin their final MLB Playoff push
With just one more day off, over the next 29 days leading up to the end of the regular season, the Mets are well positioned to land in the playoff party come October. New York (74-59) has played lights out lately as they posted a 20-8 record in August and now own a six game lead over the Washington Nationals in the NL East. The Mets sweep the Marlins, winning three straight contests by a 25-7 combined count, during their last trip to South Beach back in the beginning of August.
Miami Marlins: Don’t get too excited about their recent sweep of the Braves
Miami is riding their fourth three-game winning streak since the All-Star break but the current one needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The Marlins went into Atlanta and bashed the Braves by an 18-3 margin during a three game set to open the week. That said, everyone is annihilating Atlanta as they have posted a 2-17 recent record. Miami is second last in the Majors with 499 runs scored – the Braves are last with 479. The Marlins had rough August as they went 11-16 last month.
New York vs Miami MLB Prediction: Mets ace Jacob deGrom (12-7 ERA 2.32) faces Marlins RHP Tom Koehler (8-13 ERA 4.12) in the mound matchup tonight. Take away a rare stumble, a 16-7 Mets loss to the Phillies, and deGrom has not allowed more than two runs over his last eight starts. Koehler has been a bit of gas can as he allowed 26 runs (25 earned) over 33.2 innings pitched and Miami lost all six of his August starts.
