Los Angeles Dodgers: Kershaw has returned to ace status
Los Angeles enters with a 67-51 record and the Dodgers hold a three-game lead on the Giants. It’s been a mixed bag for LA since the All-Star break as the Dodgers are 16-12 over their last 28 games. It took a little longer than most hoped but Los Angeles stud LHP Clayton Kershaw has returned to MLB Ace form as he’s allowed just five runs over 55 innings pitched during his last seven starts.
Oakland Athletics: MLB season that never got started nears an end
Stumbling out of the starting block with a 14-30 record back on May 22, the Athletics season was over shortly after it started. Oakland was 13.5 games behind Houston at that point and their current 51-69 mark still has the A’s 13.5 games out of the race in the AL West. Oakland is middle of the pack in offense and starting pitching but their 99 fielding errors is tops in the Majors and their 4.52 bullpen ERA is 28th worst in the league. LHP Felix Doubront (1-1 ERA 4.59) has allowed five runs, over 10.2 innings, in two starts since arriving from Toronto. He is over-matched here.
