Currently in a torrid Eastern Conference playoff battle, New York (33-19-7) visits the Alberta Capital to face Edmonton (22-34-7) who own sole possession of the NHL cellar. The Islanders have won three straight during visits to New Jersey (1-0) Minnesota (4-1) and Calgary (2-1 OT) as they play the fourth of a seven game road trip. New York is 8-3-1 as they close a winning run in February tonight.
Sitting 17 points out of a Western Conference playoff spot, Edmonton is 1-8-2 over their last eleven matches. The Oilers return home after two hard fought losses in Los Angeles (2-1) and Anaheim (2-1 OT) on back-to-back nights in SoCal. Prior to that, Edmonton lost five straight at home by a combined 19-9 final count. Edmonton is battling but this contest means way more to New York.
