Close to claiming their first winning season in six years, the Chicago Cubs (80-58) continue their playoff push versus the Phillies today. The young Cubs are one of the better stories in the Majors this year as baseball is alive and well on the North Side of Chicago. In fact, in any division other the AL Central - the Cubs would be sitting in first place. Hooked in with Cardinals (88-52) and Pirates (83-58) the Cubs sit third in the NL Central. Barring a total collapse, the Cubs will play in the NL Wild Card game as they currently own a nine-game lead on the San Francisco Giants.

A big part of the Cubs surge, especially their 33-18 record since the All-Star break, has been the lights out pitching of stud starter RHP Jake Arieta. Since July 2, Arieta is 11-1 with one no-decision and the Cubs are 12-1 over his last 13 starts. Battling Dodgers ace Zack Greinke in the NL Cy Young award race, Arieta has allowed just two earned runs over 56.1 innings pitched during his his last eight starts – all wins by the Cubs. During that stretch, Arieta has struck out 50 and walked just ten batters and he has emerged as an ace amongst aces in Major League Baseball.
Phillies vs Cubs MLB Call: We haven't talked about Philadelphia, as there isn’t much the say. The Phillies are 54-86 and sit dead last in the Majors. Philadelphia is on a 4-12 recent run but they did sweep the Cubs during a three-game series back in July. Coming off a 7-5 pounding by Boston in his last start, Phillies rookie LHP Adam Morgan (5-5 ERA 4.42) opposes Arieta in this contest.
