LA Angels: Turn to their Ace as playoff race heats up
Though not the near "Mr Automatic" that he was in 2012, RHP Jered Weaver (12-7 ERA 3.68) is still the leader of the Angels pitching staff. Weaver needs to heat up down the stretch and, much like it was with C.J. Wilson last night, the floundering Phillies are just what the doctor ordered. The Angels are 8-2 over Weaver's last ten starts and as a strikeout pitcher, Weaver (120 K's) will be happy to face Philadelphia hitters who have struck out 973 times (MLB 7th most) and own a collective .241 batting average that ranks 26th in the Majors.
Faltering Phillies hope A.J. Burnett can end his personal losing skid
Talk about regressing from stud to dud - Phillies RHP A.J. Burnett (6-12 ERA 4.29) has slowly slide into that role. Philadelphia has lost Burnett's last five starts, though it's not all on A.J. as the Phillies were outscored by a combined 35-9 count in those contests. That said, Burnett has given up 17 runs (13 earned) and 22 hits in his last 12.2 innings pitched and that has resulted in three straight losses. Relaxing down in beautiful SoCal, it's difficult to imagine the Phillies getting all that pumped up to face Weaver and the Angels tonight.
