Los Angeles Dodgers: Gaining separation in the NL West
When we checked in on Los Angeles, prior to their game on the Fourth of July, the Dodgers had a three game lead on the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. Despite posting a 2-2 mark over their last four games, LA has now built a five game lead on the defending World Series Champs and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Overall the Dodgers are 48-38 which is good for the fifth best mark in the Majors – though a healthy 7.5 games behind the MLB leading St. Louis Cardinals.
Zack Greinke vs Severino Gonzalez: Major pitching mismatch
There’s no sense turning away from a hot hand and we certainly won’t here. Dodgers ace RHP Zack Greinke (7-2 ERA 1.46) is on an amazing roll as he has not allowed a run of any kind over 27.2 innings pitched during his last four starts. In the process, Greinke has given up just 15 hits and he has struck out 23 batters. Phillies starter RHP Severino Gonzalez (3-2 ERA 8.28) was just called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley for the third time this season. The rookie has given up 23 runs and 39 hits over 25 innings during his six appearances on the bump in during his big league debut.
