Philadelphia vs New York: NFC East Rivalry Clash Closes NFL Week 6 Action
Philadelphia Eagles: Looking to gather some sort of consistency
Still somewhat difficult to figure out on a week-to-week basis, Philadelphia is playing at home for a second straight week after the Eagles punished the New Orleans Saints 39-17 during NFL Week 5 action. Philadelphia entered that contest with a 1-3 record as they dropped their first two games to Atlanta (26-24) on the road and Dallas (20-10) at home, prior to taking down a solid New York Jets squad 24-17 and then losing to Washington (23-20) during battles on the road. This is a huge game for the Eagles as a third loss to an NFC East Division opponent would likely spell playoff doom.
New York Giants: Aiming to take control of the NFC East Division with a win tonight
Following a couple of early season stumbles, New York comes into this game riding a three game winning streak. The Giants coughed up a pair of late game leads as they lost to Dallas (27-26) and Atlanta (24-20) prior to posting wins over Washington (32-21) Buffalo (24-10) and San Francisco (30-27). The Giants scored a touchdown on an eight-play 82-yard drive in just 1:24 of clock time to take down the 49ers on their final drive of the game at home last weekend. New York ranks ninth in yards per game on offense (373.6) but just 27th on defense as they have allowed 384.8 YPG.
Philadelphia vs New York: As illustrated above, both of these squads are off to strange starts and neither team looks like a legitimate playoff contender. Philly has dominated this series recently as they are on an 11-3 roll against the Giants. Philadelphia won both contests last year as they shutout New York 27-0 in Week 6 prior to posting a 34-26 victory in the Meadowlands during Week 17 action. The Eagles and Giants five combined wins have come against teams that are sporting a collective 13-16 overall record. While this is a huge game for both teams – Philadelphia is basically in a must-win situation tonight. A victory will move Philadelphia to the top of the NFC East, with a tiebreaker over the G-Men, while a loss would drop them into last place in the division.
