Los Angeles Dodgers: Enjoying a red hot run in September
Beginning to peak at a perfect time, Los Angeles is enjoying a lights out September as the Dodgers have posted an 11-4 record this month. Sitting with an 84-61 overall record, Los Angeles has put away everyone in the National League West as their closest contender is San Francisco who are 7.5 games out of the playoff race. Five Dodgers wins, coupled with five losses by the Giants, will win the NL West. Los Angeles need to keep winning though as they have a 1.5 game lead over the New York Mets in the race for home field advantage in the second round of the 2015 MLB playoffs.
Pittsburgh Pirates: Head out on the road following a collapse versus the Chicago Cubs
It’s out of the fat and into the fryer for Pittsburgh as the Pirates exit a playoff style series versus the Chicago Cubs and enter another against the Dodgers in SoCal tonight. After winning the first of their four-game set against the Cubs (5-4) Pittsburgh dropped three in a row including a 9-6 drubbing in the series finale yesterday. The Buccos have wobbled some this month as they are 8-9 in September. With hopes of winning the NL Central faded, Pittsburgh is focused on maintaining home field advantage for their pending one-game Wild Card showdown against the Cubs.
Los Angeles vs Pittsburgh MLB Prediction: Give the Dodgers an edge in the pitching matchup here as LA ace RHP Zack Greinke faces Pirates LHP Jeff Locke (8-10 ERA 4.43) in the battle on the bump. Locke has been anything but a lock on the road as he is 4-6 and has allowed 47 runs (43 earned) over 68 innings pitched away from PNC Park.
