Pittsburgh vs Buffalo: High Flying Penguins Host Toothless Sabres
Pittsburgh Penguins: NHL leaders in goals per game
Two words - scoring juggernaut - is the best way to describe the Pittsburgh offense early in the 2014-15 NHL season. With 36 goals, through their first nine games, the Penguins lead the league with a 4.00 goals for per game average. Led by Sidney Crosby, who has registered seven goals and eight assists, Pittsburgh (6-2-1) has earned at least a point in seven of their nine games played. The Pens top three scorers, Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist, have combined to post 39 points in nine games - the entire Buffalo team has registered 31 points in eleven games. Pittsburgh has been lethal on the powerplay as they have converted 39.5% of their chances. Buffalo has been shorthanded 41 times this season - 27th worst in the league.
Buffalo Sabres: Slumbering season continues in upstate New York
Two words - really bad - is the best way to describe the entire Buffalo team as the Sabres get set to battle Pittsburgh in the first of three meetings this season. Buffalo (2-8-1) earned their fifth point of the year as they dropped a 3-2 OT decision at home versus Boston on Thursday. The schedule makers have not been kind to Buffalo as the Sabres are playing their sixth game in eleven days. Five of those have been road contests including a tough three game swing through California. It's rather shocking that Buffalo has earned three points in their last three games (1-1-1) as they were outshot by a 104-40 combined count in those contests.
