San Jose Sharks vs Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Betting Odds and Game Night Call
San Jose Sharks: Beginning to surge in the Pacific Division
While the above intro isn’t saying much, given the fact that the Pacific is the weakest division in the NHL, San Jose has moved on from some early season struggles and they are one of the hotter teams in hockey right now. After an impressive 4-0 start to their season, the Sharks tanked as they went 3-8-0 over their next eleven games. Since then though, San Jose has won seven of eight contests and they have outscored their opponents by a 26-18 margin. The Sharks last two matches were both 5-2 finals as San Jose lost to Chicago on Wednesday before dousing the Flames on Saturday. San Jose was out-shot 39-29 but never trailed during a 3-1 win in Pittsburgh on November 21.
Pittsburgh Penguins: Sid & Crew continue their highly inconsistent season start
Pittsburgh has been a Rubik’s cube for us as they continue to roll through hot and cold stretches. After opening the season with three straight losses, the Penguins soared for a while as they posted a 9-1 mark over their next ten matches. A lifeless and embarrassing 5-2 loss to the lowly Calgary Flames ended a six game winning streak and Pittsburgh is riding a 4-4-2 streak as they open a four game Western Conference road trip tonight. Following a hard fought 4-3 overtime win versus St. Louis, The Penguins have dropped two in a row as they were beat 2-1 (OT) by the Blue Jackets in Columbus and then lost 3-2 (SO) versus the lowly Edmonton Oilers at home on Saturday.
San Jose vs Pittsburgh NHL Prediction: We get a repeat of the goaltending matchup from the first meeting here as Marc-Andre Fleury (11-7-1 GAA 2.22) squares off against Martin Jones (12-6-0) in the battle between the pipes. Both netminders are capable of stealing a win for their team on any given night. San Jose, with a 4-6-0 home record, hasn’t been very sharp in the Shark Tank while Pittsburgh has posted a decent 5-4-1 mark on the road. The Sharks size advantage is a factor in this contest as the Penguins have been known to wilt against teams that play a “heavy” style of hockey. Back San Jose with a 250 unit wager on the money line odds posted at the sportsbooks.
