Although expectations weren’t all that high in the preseason, Oakland opened the MLB 2015 season on a 14-30 run. Somewhat better lately, with a 9-6 record, the Athletics are still lacking consistency as they were just swept by the Red Sox in Boston. Don’t blame the A’s losing ways on RHP Sonny Gray (7-2 ERA 1.65) as he’s been a shining star in Oakland. Gray has allowed just 15 earned runs over 82 innings pitched during his 12 starts this season.

The Rangers were 16-23 on May 19 and sat 9.5 games behind Houston. Thanks to a 14-4 recent run, coupled with the Astros stumbling some, Texas is now just three games out of first place. RHP Nick Martinez (4-2 ERA 2.89) is having a solid sophomore season and the Rangers have won eight of his eleven starts.
