Texas vs Toronto: Rangers and Blue Jays Battle for a Berth in the MLB 2015 ALCS
Toronto Blue Jays: Need red-hot bats to keep burning bright
While a lot has been made about who will start and when, who has and who will pitch in relief, and who is and isn’t available on the Toronto pitching staff today, it will all be water under the bridge if the Blue Jays sticks stay hot. Relatively light on MLB playoff experience, stars like Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnación had never played in a postseason game, the Jays didn’t look comfortable and appeared to be swinging for the fences during the first two games at home. Once they got to Texas, Toronto looked much more like the team that went 40-18 to close out the regular. After producing seven runs on 14 hits during the first two contests at home, the Blue Jays bats were booming as they scored 13 runs on 21 hits during the two games in the Lone Star State.
Texas Rangers: Can point to their two-game sweep in Toronto as motivation
Been there – done that. One has to think that will the Rangers mindset as they roll into the Rogers Centre today. Although they were aided somewhat by questionable officiating during their 5-3 and 6-4 (F/14) wins in Toronto, Texas knows they can win on the road. This is especially true when you consider the Rangers posted an American League best 45-36 record on the road during the regular season. While the Blue Jays sluggers have caught fire, the big bats of Prince Fielder and Josh Hamilton have been quite as they have produced just four hits during 31 plate appearances and neither player has produced an RBI in this series. Throw in the fact that their team leader, third baseman Adrian Beltre is somewhat less than 100% and we feel Texas is in trouble today.
ALDS Game 5 Prediction: We get a repeat of the Game 2 starters here as LHP Cole Hamels faces RHP Marcus Stroman in the battle on the bump today. Both pitchers were solid in their first meeting but neither pitcher figured in the decision during the Rangers 14 inning marathon victory last Wednesday. Confidence is a huge factor in baseball and the Blue Jays have it in spades heading into this series clinching contest. Take Toronto with 500 units on the SportsInteraction money line.
