Toronto vs Tampa Bay: Blue Jays Look to Retain Top American League Perch
Toronto Blue Jays: Hot roll continues for the Canadian Crew
Peaking at the perfect time, the Blue Jays are soaring as they prepare for their first postseason appearance since 1993. Toronto is on a torrid run as they have won seven straight contests with their full squad of regular starters in the lineup. This is an important contest as the Royals are in Minnesota and they are trashing the Twins by a 5-1 count during their matinee contest. If Kansas City maintains the lead, Toronto would fall a half game behind the Royals in the battle for the American League regular season pennant and homefield advantage throughout the 2015 MLB playoffs. Toronto is on a 7-1 roll versus Tampa Bay and the Blue Jays have won five straight versus the Rays – including the 8-4 pounding they posted in the series opener last night.
Blue Jays vs Rays: Solid mound matchup features Marco Estrada battling Chris Archer
With David Price, Marcus Stroman and R.A. Dickey locked in as playoff starters, RHP Marco Estrads (13-8 ERA 3.15) makes a bid to push Mark Buehrle out of the picture as he heads to the hill today. Estrada enjoyed a solid September as he allowed 13 runs over 39 innings pitched and Toronto went 5-1 during his six starts. RHP Chris Archer (12-13 ERA 3.26) may be running out of gas as he gave up 19 earned runs, over 26 innings pitched, during five starts in September. Prior to dominating the Jays during four starts prior to August, Archer matched the worst outing of his career as he was charged with nine runs, over 3.2 innings, during the Blue Jays 10-8 victory last Saturday.
Blue Jays vs Rays MLB Prediction: During their 7-1 recent run, Toronto outscored Tampa Bay by a 41-24 margin. The Blue Jays are runaway leaders in runs scored as their 855 total is an astronomical 135 runs better than the 755 the New York Yankees have plated. Tampa Bay is at the other end of the spectrum as their 628 tally is the 26th worst mark in the Majors. Archer aiming for a measure of revenge is a slight concern but shutting down the Big Blue hitting machine is almost impossible.
