Following a red-hot start, Washington was 19-8 over their first 27 contests; the Nationals cooled some as they were swept in a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs on the weekend. Though they needed an extra inning to do it, Washington rebounded with a 5-4 win over Detroit last night. The Tigers opened May with a fifth straight victory but the Cats have slumped badly as they have lost their last seven games. The skid has pushed Detroit (14-17) a whopping eight games out of first place in the AL Central Division.

We have a pitching matchup that favours Washington as RHP Joe Ross (3-1 ERA 1.23) faces RHP Michael Fulmer (1-1 ERA 6.30) in the battle on the bump tonight.
