Washington vs San Diego: Betting Lines and Game Day Preview
After a disappointing 2015 MLB campaign, as World Series chalk Washington finished 83-79 and missed the playoffs, the Nationals have picked up the pace during the first half of the 2016 season. Washington stormed out of the starting gate with a 16-7 record in April, stumbled some to a 16-14 mark in May but they are 9-4 so far in June. It all adds up to a 41-25 overall record and a five-game lead in the NL East. The Nats travelling after an extra innings win last night is mild concern here.
Facing a sixth straight losing season - tough times continue to plague the Friars in San Diego. The Padres season started with a rough 9-15 April, then they posted an 11-18 May mark prior to playing somewhat better with a level 7-7 record halfway through June. The Padres 27-40 overall mark has San Diego 14 games behind San Francisco in the NL West Division. The Friars 268 runs scored is fourth lowest total in the Majors but they hit well during a 6-4 win vs Miami yesterday.

Tanner Roark Facing Erik Johnson Gives Washington a Pitching Advantage Tonight
As part of the Nationals third ranked pitching staff, RHP Tanner Roark (5-4 ERA 2.93) opens this four-game weekend series for Washington. Except for three lackluster outings, Roark has been solid as he has allowed three runs or less in ten of his thirteen starts – including five outings where he did not allow a single run. Roark’s last start was a beauty as he shutout the Phillies and allowed just six hits over seven innings during an 8-0 Nationals’ win on June 11. Expect another strong start here.
San Diego counters with RHP Erik Johnson (0-3 ERA 7.71) who is making his fourth start of the season tonight – his second in a Padres uniform. Johnson was acquired from Chicago after San Diego traded James Shields to the White Sox. While in the Windy City, Johnson gave up nine runs over 11.2 innings pitched during two losses. The struggles continued as he gave up five runs over 4.2 innings during his first start for San Diego. Back the Nationals (-179) money line at Bet365.
