San Diego vs Pittsburgh: 2015 NFL Week 5 Monday Night Football Prediction
San Diego Chargers: Defense needs to catch up to their offense
Moving the chains has not been a problem for San Diego as the Chargers rank fourth overall with 411 average yards per game on offense. A little more scoring would help, especially during road games, as the Bolts are tied for eleventh overall with Pittsburgh at 24 points per game. The road numbers drag down the Chargers scoring average as San Diego has won twice at home (33-28 and 30-27) but they have lost twice (24-19 and 31-14) on the road. Expect another solid effort by the offense at home tonight. However, as those scores illustrate, the Chargers defense has been largely MIA this year and their 27.5 PPG allowed is the 25th worst mark in the NFL. They should improve on those numbers against the now anemic Steelers offense that’s led by a hack of a quarterback.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Look to get up off the mat after their Week 4 meltdown at home
Still without QB Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh is coming off one of the most embarrassing loses we have ever witnessed as they dropped a 23-20 decision at home to Baltimore last Thursday. Actually, in all honesty, we didn’t witness the entire meltdown as we turned the game off when the Ravens gave up the ball on downs with two minutes left. That meant we missed the game-tying field goal with three seconds left on the clock and the overtime winner. We were pleasantly surprised to see that our call on that game cashed when we checked out the NFL scoreboard – an hour or so after the game had ended. We don’t like the Steelers on the road here as East coast teams hover around a 35% cover rate when they travel West for a night game - it's Circadian rhythms eh?
Steelers vs Chargers 2015 NFL Week 5 MNF Call: Pittsburgh has looked very ordinary with QB Mike Vick under center and we expect that trend will continue tonight. Though it’s easier said than done, San Diego needs to contain RB Le’Veon Bell and force DKMV into passing situations. If they do, turnovers will ultimately follow as DKMV is way past his prime as a passer and a decision maker. Although they looked decent against underwhelming quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Nick Foles, Tom Brady and Colin Kaepernick have both torched the Steelers weak secondary. It’ll be bombs away early and often for QB Philip Rivers who has passed for 1248 yards and eight touchdowns so far this season. In addition to having stud WR Keenan Allen to throw to, Rivers also gets one of his favorite weapons back tonight as TE Antonio Gates will see his first action following a four-game NFL imposed suspension. Back the Bolts with a 500 unit wager on the money line price posted at the Bet365 online sportsbook.
